News outlet USA Today has again rated Michigan’s Upper Peninsula the best destination in the United States to view fall colors in their 10BEST Readers’ Choice Awards.
With more than 85% of its surface covered by luscious forests, for a total of over 16,500 square miles, the UP offers over 1,500 miles of suggested fall color routes winding through hardwood forests, amongst the shores of the Great Lakes and past scenic waterfalls, overlooks, and small towns.
The UP has previously won this category several times, and autumn remains one of the Peninsula’s stronger tourism seasons. Fall visitors support lodging, restaurants, shops, attractions, and other local and small businesses, extending visitor activity well beyond the summer months and bridging the gap until the peak winter tourism season.
For those who what to see the progress of the fall colors near where they live, Visit Keweenaw has a fall color report on their website.
