The Keweenaw Community Foundation is a local nonprofit organization that aims to empower other Copper Country nonprofits through support originating from several funds. Since Sep. 1, their Fall grant cycle has been open for application, and to spread awareness and understanding of how the process works, the Foundation is hosting an open-house at their office on the third floor of 417 Quincy St. in Hancock on Sep. 9 from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Director of Programs Madelina DiLisi says that “we are actually able to grant out to nonprofit organizations, schools, municipalities, and community organizations and because we have quite a few different funds, that cover different topics and areas, we get a lot of questions and we find that sometimes it’s really helpful for people to be able to come in.” in regards to the reason for holding the open-house.
The funds that the Foundation offers includes accessibility, arts & culture, youth assistance, community & belonging, community development, education, environmental, health & wellness, historical, local food systems, and supporting seniors. Any organization that falls into these categories is encouraged to apply. The deadline for this cycle’s application is Oct 15.
