The Keweenaw Chamber of Commerce plays a vital role in supporting local business growth and fostering community connections across the region.
The organization introduces new businesses to the community, provides educational programming on economics and business growth opportunities, and helps to organize major events throughout the Keweenaw Peninsula year-round.
“Being out at the ribbon cuttings is something. It’s exciting to see a new business open and the excitement and the hard work that those business owners put into that,” said Katie Schlief, Chamber Manager at the Keweenaw Chamber of Commerce. “So we come in there and celebrate those milestones.”
The Lunch and Learn series and Wake Up Keweenaw program exemplify how the chamber educates and encourages growth among business owners and professionals. The organization also serves as a valuable networking tool for professionals seeking to collaborate with others in the region.
“The Lunch and Learns is something where we do a power hour over the lunch hour where it’s more engaging. Where the employees can bring back something to the workforce and engage with their other co-workers and management as well,” Schlief said. “And then our Wake Up Keweenaw is more of an informative community update. We have a lot of stakeholders and leadership that attend those meetings, so it’s just more of an informative morning at the Wake Up Keweenaw breakfast.”
The chamber’s fall fundraiser golf outing is coming up soon. While the event is full for additional teams, businesses and professionals can still get involved by sponsoring different aspects of the day. Chamber Manager, Katie Schlief says hole sponsorships set up fun interactions between the business community during the day. Different businesses might bring a quick game or activity to challenge each team before heading to the tee box. The golf outing can also help non-profits and community organizations connect with the business community when out on the course as hole hosts.
