Houghton County’s prosecutor’s office provide updates on recent dangerous vehicular accidents in the community.
On Monday The Houghton County prosecutor confirmed a minor will face charges related to high-speed crash on Obenhoff Road in July. Prosecutor Dan Helmer shared in an exchange with Keweenaw Report, a minor has been charged with operating a vehicle with any blood alcohol content, for an accident that damaged multiple parked vehicles on Obenhoff Road on July 11th in Atlantic Mine. Because the individual is under the age of 18; the prosecutor office can only share limited information on the case. Michigan state police confirmed the accident involved a person under 18 years old on July 13th.
Helmer also confirmed the office awaits BAC results from the MSP lab related to an individual that damaged a Dodgeville apartment over the weekend of July 4th. The Michigan State Police Forensic Science Toxicology Unit’s lab is located in Lansing. The delay in receiving timely lab results from the MSP Toxicology Unit can affect how quickly prosecutor offices can review charges in any case.
