The Ontonagon Volunteer Fire Department responded Sunday to a grass fire on Scovia Road that measured approximately 60 feet by 60 feet.
Firefighters located the fire just before 1 pm, as it began spreading toward longer grass and pine trees. The department deployed an engine’s portable water system, stretching 350 feet of wildland hose from Tanker 17 to supply water. The Rescue 1 crew used hand tools to prevent further spread.
Firefighters contained and extinguished the fire at 1:46 p.m., preventing it from reaching a nearby barn and surrounding woodland. The department used approximately 1,000 gallons of water during the incident.
Twelve personnel and three fire engines responded. No injuries were reported. Find details here.
