Michigan Technological University’s College of Sciences and Arts announced Tuesday that Joel Neves will become the new department chair of Visual and Performing Arts.
Neves brings 17 years of experience at Michigan Tech, where he has served as a professor of music and director of orchestral activities. He also conducts the Keweenaw Symphony Orchestra and has guest conducted numerous professional, college and all-state orchestras.
His leadership experience spans orchestral concerts, ballets and operas, demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of performing arts programming and education.
Neves’ appointment reflects Michigan Tech’s commitment to strengthening its visual and performing arts programs. His extensive background in orchestral direction and music education positions him to advance the department’s mission and student opportunities.
