High School
The Jeffers High School baseball team ended its tournament run with a 4-0 loss to Marcellus in a Division Four state semifinal game in East Lansing yesterday. Cale Hackenberg of the Wildcats allowed just four Jets hits over seven innings, and struck out 15. Cam Anderson and Brogan Turner combined to hold Marcellus to just seven hits.
NBA
The NBA championship series continues tonight when the Spurs host the Knicks. New York leads the series 3-1.
NHL
The Hurricanes visit the Golden Knights tomorrow. Carolina leads the Stanley Cup final 3-2.
MLB
The Tigers fell 3-2 to the Guardians last night. Jack Flaherty gave up two runs over three innings, before exiting with pain in his lower left leg. He’ll be evaluated today. Detroit batters were held to just two hits, one a solo home run by new Tigers outfielder James Outman.
The Tigers visit the Guardians again this afternoon. Tarik Skubal will return from the injured list to face Joey Cantillo. Coverage will begin at 3:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
To make room for Outman on the 25-man roster, the Tigers designated infielder Zack Short for assignment. Detroit also brought reliever Kenley Jansen off the injured list and called up newly-acquired reliever Jacob Waguespack. Beau Brieske and Brenan Hanifee were both optioned to Toledo.
Jacob Misiorowski turned in the best pitching performance in the majors so far this season, as the Brewers blanked the Phillies 6-0 last evening. Misiorowski struck out 15 batters and allowed just one hit in a 95-pitch complete-game gem in which his fastball topped out at 104 miles per hour. Jake Bauers hit a three-run homer.
The Brewers host the Phillies again tonight. Shane Drohan will pitch against Aaron Nola.
Milwaukee has added pitcher Coleman Crow to the injured list with a flexor strain. Craig Yoho was called up to fill in.
Running
Zebedee Swager of Houghton won yesterday’s Thatcher Markham Memorial 5k, finishing 40 seconds ahead of Rick Koubek of Alto, Michigan. Bridget Burns was the top women’s finisher. See full results here.
