The Baraga County Fair faces potential cuts to beloved activities unless more volunteers step forward to help with this year’s event.
The fair board recently announced it may eliminate chicken bingo, raffles, bounce houses, awards ceremonies and musical performances if sufficient volunteers aren’t found before the August 7-9 weekend.
Over many decades, county fairs have developed a sense of community through engaged residents, farms and businesses. However, several county fairs have struggled in recent years to maintain traditions that highlight local agriculture and talents.
The Baraga County Fair needs volunteers to operate games and activities, greet visitors at the gate and provide general assistance around the fairgrounds. The fair board has compiled a full list of volunteer positions that must be filled before fair weekend.
County fairs bring families and friends together while showcasing the talent of local farms and residents. The events offer plenty of fun for participants and volunteers alike.
Those interested in supporting the Baraga County Fair as volunteers can find available positions online. The fair board encourages anyone with questions or seeking more details to contact them directly. baragacountyfair@up.net
