There are changes coming to the Porcupine Mountains Music Festival, with four of the event’s long-time top organizers stepping back from their roles.
The 20th edition of the festival will be held August 28th and 29th at the ski hill at the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park. Headliners include the Steel Wheels and the band Southern Avenue.
This year’s festival will be the last for Linda and Don Kermeen, who founded the festival after purchasing a resort business in the Ontonagon area. Linda has handled the financial aspects of the event, and Don has served as the booking coordinator.
Program Director and Media Coordinator Cheryl Sundberg will also step down. She’s been coordinating the weekend since 2013. Assistant Director Jennifer Jackman, another long-term leader, will also be retiring.
The festival is sponsored by the Friends of the Porkies. The organization’s board of directors has committed to continuing the event. A succession plan was implemented two years ago, with board members shadowing the current leaders to learn how the operation works.
The Friends have created a job description for the incoming future director’s position, which can be found on their website and social media. Applications are now open, and information is available at their website.
