This afternoon, the Houghton County Jail Committee will meet for the first time since Committee Chairman Jared Hrykas resigned at a meeting in May.
Hrykas shared with fellow members that the time commitment dedicated to working on the committee outside of meetings had started to interfere with other responsibilities. He wished to avoid any possible conflicts of interest perceived by the public if the firm he works for chooses to bid on any potential project.
At the previous meeting, the committee heard from Douglas Dukes and John Pollack, retired sheriffs now representing Elevatus Architecture, a security facility design firm in Indiana.
In a report shared by the League of Women Voters of the Copper Country, Dukes and Pollack were invited to share what services the firm can provide and how it works with sheriff departments to identify features important in improving a county’s jail facility.
This evening, the jail committee will meet at 4 p.m. on the fifth floor of the Houghton County Courthouse. The committee invites the public to join and discuss the jail issue as county leaders continue to analyze past votes and the needs identified for a new facility.
