Bridgefest’s excitement quickly approaches, and while organizers are finishing details for events and activities, businesses, nonprofits and community organizations are hard at work finishing details on grand parade floats.
This year, Copper Shores helps kick off the parade by leading the groups through downtown Hancock and Houghton as the presenting sponsor of the weekend.
Communications Director Michael Babcock says Copper Shores’ staff have been working hard on this year’s float. He’s even smiled looking back at the photos from last year’s parade and float building.
“It’s amazing to see all those people on the side of the road for the entire stretch from all the way through downtown Houghton, all the way through downtown Hancock, and right across the bridge,” Babcock said. “And then as a participant on the side of the road watching it, I cannot believe how much candy gets thrown. The floats just keep on coming and they’re getting better every year. People are really taking it seriously to make those floats memorable, make it fun, and it’s paying off to making the event even better than it ever has been before.”
Copper Shores will be joined by many groups during the 2026 Bridgefest parade on June 12. The Keweenaw Chamber of Commerce will continue to register floats and parade groups until June 8.
Last year’s parade included nearly 60 businesses, organizations and nonprofits. The annual parade typically lasts between one and two hours.
