MLB
The Tigers blanked the Angels 4-0 last night. Spencer Torkelson had three hits, including a double and a home run. Casey Mize gave up two hits and struck out six, but left the game after the fourth inning with tightness in his groin. Four Tigers relievers held L.A. hitless over the duration, with Drew Anderson getting the win. The injury bug struck again late in the game, though, as Kenley Jansen left the game with two outs in the ninth after landing awkwardly while making a pitch. He’s been battling groin tightness, as well.
Both Mize and Jansen will be evaluated today.
The Tigers host the Angels again this afternoon. Jack Flaherty will start against Grayson Rodriguez. Coverage will begin at 12:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
After designating pitcher Connor Seabold for assignment, the Tigers traded him to Toronto in exchange for 21-year-old pitcher Juanmi Vasquez, who is currently at the High-A minor league level.
The Brewers completed a three-game sweep of the Cardinals with a 2-1 victory yesterday. Chad Patrick gave up a run on five hits over four innings. Three relievers limited Saint Louis to three hits over the next five frames. Aaron Ashby got the win. Milwaukee was held off the board until the eighth inning, when Christian Yelich singled home the tying run, then scored the game-winner on an error.
The Brewers have today off, and welcome the Astros tomorrow night.
