High School
In softball yesterday…
- Hancock took two from Westwood, 2-1 and 12-1. In the opener, Kaelyn Rouleau singled home the winning run in the bottom of the seventh. Lucy Biekkola struck out nine to get the win in the circle. The Bulldogs scored eight runs in the fourth inning of the nightcap, with help from eight Patriots’ wild pitches and two passed balls. Biekkola again got the win, striking out five before the game ended by mercy rule in the fifth inning.
Hancock has been named the WestPAC Boys Golf Team of the Year. Brendan Jukuri from Houghton was named Player of the Year, with a nine-hole average of 36.8. Paul Sintkowski of the Bulldogs was honored as Coach of the Year.

Calumet High School has named its top senior athletes for the class of 2026. Ben Anderson won the George Gipp Award as the top boys athlete. Kiirsi Johnson claimed the Holly Jean McCullah Award as the top girls athlete.
NBA
The Thunder stopped the Spurs 123-108 last night. Oklahoma City leads the Western Conference final 2-1.
The Cavaliers welcome the Knicks tonight. New York leads the Eastern Conference final 2-0.
NHL
The Golden Knights shut down the Avalanche 3-1. Vegas leads the Western Conference final 2-0.
The Hurricanes host the Canadiens this evening. Montreal leads the Eastern Conference final 1-0.
MLB
Jack Flaherty struggled again, as the Tigers lost to the Orioles 7-4 last night. Flaherty was charged with six runs before leaving in the fourth inning. Kevin McGonigle homered.
The Tigers have dropped seven straight, and 15 of their last 17. They visit the Orioles today. Framber Valdez will start against Brandon Young. Coverage will begin at 3:40 on 99.3 The Lift.
Two more Tigers pitchers are ailing. Brant Hurter is dealing with a sore back – he’s considered day to day. Burch Smith is being treated for inflammation in his pitching shoulder. He’s been placed on the injured list. Brenan Hanifee has been called back up from Toledo.
The Brewers dispatched the Dodgers 5-1 last evening. William Contreras hit a three-run homer in the first inning. Logan Henderson struck out seven over five shutout innings to get the win.
The Brewers host the Dodgers tonight. Robert Gasser will pitch against Roki Sasaki.
Biking
Ride the Keweenaw continues today, with group rides scheduled for the Tech Trails this morning, and Churning Rapids this afternoon. Tomorrow, the Lake Superior Gravity Series begins with the first Enduro of the year in Copper Harbor. Most events are free, but the Enduros do have entry fees. For the full schedule, click here.
