Bono and The Edge appeared alongside Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum in Mexico City during an event connected to the Street Child World Cup, a global program that uses soccer, art, and advocacy to support young people living in vulnerable situations.
Organizers said the event brought together children and youth from different countries to take part in matches and public activities focused on rights, protection, education, and inclusion. The gathering also focused on the experiences of street-connected young people and the challenges many face in accessing basic services and long-term support.
The Street Child World Cup is held around major international soccer events and is designed to give participants a visible platform beyond the field. This year’s edition in Mexico City included teams from multiple countries and highlighted issues such as identity, safety, and gender equality.
Bono and The Edge’s appearance added international attention to the event, while Sheinbaum’s participation tied the gathering to Mexico’s role as one of the host nations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
