High School
In baseball Saturday…
- At the Negaunee tournament, Houghton defeated Marquette 11-10, and fell to Negaunee 11-1. Calumet defeated Marquette 5-4, and lost to Negaunee 7-1.
- Hancock swept L’Anse 12-7 and 11-0. In the opener, the Bulldogs built a 12-0 lead before the Purple Hornets scored seven in the bottom of the fifth inning. Ben Keranen had three hits, two RBI and two runs scored for Hancock. Connor Kemppainen had three hits and two RBI for L’Anse. Connor Helminen and Chase Keranen combined to hold the Hornets to just one hit in the nightcap. Luciano Paoli had three hits, two RBI and two runs scored. The Bulldogs improve to 11-3 on the season.
- Jeffers and Westwood split a doubleheader. The Jets were held to just four hits as they dropped game one 2-1. Jeffers collected just three hits in game two, but made them count in a 4-0 victory. Levi Kinnunen earned the shutout on the mound.
In softball…
- At Escanaba, Houghton fell to Gladstone 3-2. Lexi Burns had a double and an RBI. The Gremlins lost to Menominee 13-10. Josie Switzer had four hits and drove in three runs.
- Hancock swept Bark River-Harris 9-0 and 15-1. Lucy Biekkola struck out 15 and allowed just two hits to earn the shutout in the opener. In the five-inning nightcap, she allowed no hits, struck out nine, and hit a home run. Emery Chenowyth had three hits, two RBI, and two runs scored.
- Lake Linden-Hubbell suffered its first loss of the season in a doubleheader split at Crivitz. The Lakes took game one 4-3. Payton Goldsworthy struck out 10 to get the win, and hit a three-run homer. Goldsworthy hit two home runs in game two, but the Lakes fell 9-7.

In the NBA tournament Saturday…
- The Pistons fell to the Cavaliers 116-109. Cade Cunningham had 27 points and 10 rebounds. Detroit leads that Eastern Conference semifinal 2-1. Game three will be played tomorrow, with coverage at 7:35 on 99.3 The Lift.
- The Thunder blasted the Lakers 131-108. Oklahoma City is up 3-0 in that Western Conference set.
Today…
- The Knicks visit the 76ers. New York leads that Eastern Conference semifinal 3-0.
- The Timberwolves host the Spurs. San Antonio is up 2-1 in that Western Conference series.
NHL
In the NHL playoffs…
- The Hurricanes dispatched the Flyers 3-2 in overtime. Carolina sweeps that Eastern Conference semifinal series 4-0.
- The Wild mauled the Avalanche 5-1. Colorado leads that Western Conference series 2-1.
Today…
- The Sabres visit the Canadiens. That Eastern Conference series is tied 1-1.
- The Ducks welcome the Golden Knights. Vegas is up 2-1 in that Western Conference set.
MLB
The Tigers dropped their fifth straight game Saturday, falling 5-1 to the Royals. Opener Burch Smith recorded just one out, and gave up a two-run inside-the-park homer to Bobby Witt, Jr.
The Tigers will play in Kansas City again tonight. Brennan Hanifee is expected to open a bullpen game for the Tigers. Noah Cameron will counter for the Phillies. Coverage will begin at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
Kerry Carpenter hit the right-field wall while chasing down Witt’s homer. He left the game, and is undergoing tests.
The Brewers came from behind to edge the Yankees 4-3 in 10 innings. New York scored one off Aaron Ashby in the top of the 10th, but Jackson Chourio singled home the tying run in the bottom of the 10th, and William Contreras’ sacrifice fly drove in the game-winner.
The Brewers host the Yankees again this afternoon. Logan Henderson will pitch against Carlos Rodón.
Milwaukee has placed outfielder Brandon Lockridge on the injured list, after he suffered a knee injury in Friday’s game. Blake Perkins has been called back from Nashville.
