High School
In high school baseball yesterday…
- Houghton breezed past Hancock 11-4. Each team scored three runs in the opening inning. The Gremlins pulled away with three more in the second, and four in the third. Joel Durocher, Gunner Flachs and Brody Donnelly each had two hits and scored twice for Houghton. Rylan Issacson got the complete-game win on the mound. Ben Keranen had two of the Bulldogs’ four hits.
- L’Anse fell to Ontonagon 12-5.
In softball yesterday…
- The Calumet games at Hancock were canceled because of wet field conditions. They will not be made up.
- L’Anse v Ontonagon – no report.
- Jeffers swept Baraga 15-0 and 18-12. The early game ended after the Jets plated 11 runs in the third inning. Elli Kuntze had three hits, including a double and a triple, and scored three times. Svea Johnson had three hits and scored twice. Jets pitcher Janet Mattila faced just 10 batters in the win. The Jets started quickly in the nightcap as well, leading 11-0 after the top of the third. Baraga’s bats woke up in the bottom of the third, and the Vikings outscored the Jets 12-7 over the rest of the game. Mattila had three hits, drove in four runs, and scored four times for Jeffers. Kuntze had two triples and a double, drove in three, and scored twice. Ari Jahfetson had three hits and drove in four runs for Baraga.
- Forest Park dropped two to Bark River-Harris, 22-3 and 26-8.

In the NBA tournament last night…
- The 76ers outscored the Celtics 113-97. Philadelphia now leads that series 3-2.
- The Knicks demolished the Hawks 126-97. New York leads that set 3-2.
- The Spurs dispatched the Trail Blazers 114-95. San Antonio wins that series 4-1.
Tonight…
- The Pistons host the Magic in a game they must win to keep their playoff run alive. Orlando leads that series 3-1. Coverage will begin at 6:35 on 99.3 The Lift.
- The Raptors visit the Cavaliers. That series is tied 2-2.
- The Lakers entertain the Rockets. Los Angeles has a 3-1 series lead.
NHL
In the NHL playoffs last night…
- The Bruins shaded the Sabres 2-1 in overtime. Buffalo now leads that series 3-2.
- The Wild outscored the Stars 4-2. Minnesota has a 3-2 series lead.
- The Oilers shut down the Ducks 4-1. Anaheim now leads that set 3-2.
Tonight…
- The Lightning welcome the Canadiens. That set is tied 2-2.
- The Flyers host the Penguins. Philadelphia leads that series 3-2.
- The Golden Knights entertain the Mammoth. That series is knotted 2-2.
MLB
The Tigers fell to the Braves 5-2 last night. Casey Mize left the game as Atlanta scored twice in the third inning. Team officials say he was experiencing groin tightness. The Tigers were held scoreless until Wenceel Pérez hit a two-run homer in the top of the ninth.
Those teams play again tonight in Atlanta. Tarik Skubal will start against JR Ritchie. Because of Pistons basketball, Tigers coverage will begin at 6:50 on KBear 102.3.
Mize will be evaluated today. Javier Báez was lifted in the fifth inning, after turning an ankle. He will also be evaluated today.
The Brewers clubbed the Diamondbacks 13-2 last night. The Crew plated eight runs in the sixth inning. Tyler Black had three of Milwaukee’s 15 hits, and drove in three runs. Chad Patrick gave up two runs over five innings, and earned the win.
The Brewers host the D-Backs again tonight. Brandon Sproat will pitch against Eduardo Rodriguez.
NFL
Reports indicate that the Detroit Lions will exercise their fifth-year contract option for running back Jahmyr Gibbs. That will keep him with the team through the 2027 season. They will not exercise the similar option for All-Pro linebacker Jack Campbell, although team officials hope they can work out long-term contract extensions for both players.
