College Basketball
The University of Michigan claimed its first NCAA Division I men’s basketball title since 1989 last night, defeating Connecticut 69-63. Elliot Cadeau led the Wolverines with 19 points, and was named the Final Four’s Most Valuable Player.
NHL
The Red Wings host the Blue Jackets tonight.
With five games left in the regular season, the Wings remain outside the potential playoff field. Ottawa controls the final Eastern Conference wild card berth, two standings points ahead of Detroit, and with the tiebreaker in hand. The Islanders are one point behind the Senators, the Blue Jackets are tied with the Wings, and the Capitals are three points out.
NBA
The Pistons suffered a 123-107 loss to the Magic last night. Jalen Duren and Daniss Jenkins each scored 18 points. Tobias Harris, Duncan Robinson and Caris LeVert were all held out because of nagging injuries.
The Pistons host the Bucks tomorrow night.
The Bucks visit the Nets tonight.
MLB
The Tigers’ woes continued with a 7-3 loss to the Twins last night. Casey Mize didn’t make it through the fifth inning, and was charged with five runs on seven hits. All of Detroit’s runs came in the fourth inning, on a double by Colt Keith and a single by Zach McInstry.
The Tigers continue that four-game set at Minnesota tonight. Tarik Skubal will start against Taj Bradley. Coverage will begin at 7:15 on 99.3 The Lift.
Detroit starter Sawyer Gipson-Long has been activated from the injured list. He’s been assigned to the Mud Hens. Gipson-Long is recovering from an oblique strain that sidelined him through spring training, after missing most of the last two seasons with Tommy John ligament replacement surgery and hip surgery.
Brandon Woodruff struggled, but the Brewers powered past the Red Sox 8-6 last night. Woodruff pitched into the sixth, but gave up five runs on seven hits. Christian Yelich had three hits, and Garrett Mitchell had two hits and drove in two runs.
The Brewers play at Boston again tonight. Jacob Misiorowski will start against Garrett Crochet.
Milwaukee has placed pitcher Jared Koenig on the injured list with a sprained left elbow. They’re hoping it can be rehabbed without surgery. Shane Drohan has been called up from Nashville.
