College Basketball
The Michigan Tech men’s basketball team ended the longest NCAA tournament run in program history with a 75-49 loss to Gannon in yesterday’s quarterfinal match. The Huskies held the high-powered Golden Knights to 20 points under their season scoring average, but couldn’t solve the Knights’ high-pressure defense, which held Marcus Tomaskek to just five points. Dawson Noordgard led Tech with 12 points, and Nate Abel added 11.
Gannon will face Oklahoma Baptist in one semifinal tomorrow. The seventh-seeded Bison upended second-seeded Cal State East Bay 78-55 yesterday. Top-seeded Nova Southeastern will face Lander University in the other semifinal.

MLB
The Tigers open the regular season today at San Diego. Tarik Skubal will start against Nick Pivetta. Coverage will begin at 3:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
The Brewers open their season at home against the White Sox today. Jacob Misiorowski will pitch against Shane Smith.
With the season underway, both teams made some roster moves yesterday.
For the Tigers, shortstop Trey Sweeney is on the 10-day injured list, recovering from a shoulder strain. Pitcher Bailey Horn is on the 15-day list following elbow surgery. Sawyer Gipson-Long is on the 15-day list, recovering from a left oblique strain. Reliever Brennan Hanofee was optioned to Toledo. Shortstop Kevin McGonigle was officially added to the roster. To make room on the 40-man roster for McGonigle, pitcher Dylan Smith was designated for assignment.
The Brewers placed pitchers Craig Yoho, Quinn Priester and Rob Zastryzny on the 15-day injured. Yoho has a calf strain, Priester is dealing with a thoracic outlet problem, and Zastryzny has a shoulder strain. Outfielder Steward Berroa also has a shoulder strain – he’s on the 10-day list. Pitcher Easton McGee was assigned to Nashville.
The Tigers are still scrambling to get their games on television. Games will be broadcast by Detroit SportsNet, which was created by team ownership to replace the failing FanDuel Sports Network. As of this morning, deals have been announced with Spectrum and DirecTV. Officials promise that more agreements will be in place in time for this afternoon’s game, and they expect the channels and subscription tier levels to be similar to where FanDuel was. An in-market streaming package for cable-cutters is also available for $190 for the season.
