High School
The Houghton High School hockey team faces the Traverse City St. Francis Bay Reps in a state semifinal game this morning. With a record of 23-6-1, the Gremlins are the top seed. Bay Reps is seeded fourth, with a record of 16-12-1. Coverage will begin at 10:30 ahead of an 11:00 faceoff on both 97.7 The Wolf and Lite 96.3 Houghton’s Breeze. Orchard Lake St Mary’s and University Liggett will face off in the other semifinal this afternoon at 1:30. The championship game will be played tomorrow at 3:00, and will be broadcast on 97.7 The Wolf and Lite 96.3 Houghton’s Breeze if the Gremlins advance.
The Dollar Bay-Tamarack City boys basketball team is headed to the state quarterfinals. The Blue Bolts claimed their regional championship with a 62-46 victory over North Dickinson last night. They will face Pickford in a quarterfinal game Tuesday at 7:00 at Gladstone High School. The Panthers remained unbeaten with a 57-30 win over Burt Lake Northern Michigan Christian in their regional final last night.

- Division Four, District 97 – Ewen-Trout Creek entertains Wakefield-Marenisco at 6:00.
- Division Four, District 98 – L’Anse plays at Baraga at 6:00.
- Division Three, District 65 – Calumet hosts Westwood at 6:00. Coverage will begin around 5:40 on both KBear 102.3 and Lite 96.3 Houghton’s Breeze.
Junior Hockey
The 18U Tier III state junior hockey tournament begins today at the Colosseum. The local Jim’s Pizza squad will face off against the Fighting Miners from Ontonagon today at 4:00. The Howell Cougars will play the Lansing Spartans at 6:00. See the full schedule here.
College Hockey
Michigan Tech hosts Bowling Green as the Central Collegiate Hockey Association playoffs open tonight. The Huskies are seeded fourth, and the Falcons fifth. Games will be played tonight at 7:07, tomorrow at 6:07, and Sunday at 5:07 if a third game is needed.
Northern Michigan University did not make the playoffs.
College Basketball
The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference basketball tournament wraps up this weekend.
On the women’s side, Northern Michigan will face top-seed Grand Valley in a semifinal game tomorrow at 2:00 in Allendale. Ferris State and Wayne State will play in the other semifinal.
Northern Michigan will host the men’s side. The top-seeded Wildcats will face fourth-seed Lake Superior State at 2:00. Second-seed Michigan Tech will play third-seed Grand Valley at 4:30.
GLHL
The Portage Lake Pioneers host the Mosinee Papermakers tonight at 7:30 at Dee Stadium.
The Calumet Wolverines welcome the Papermakers tomorrow at 7:30 at the Colosseum.
NHL
The Red Wings host the Panthers tonight. Coverage will begin at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
David Perron is returning to the Red Wings. Perron skated with the Wings in the 2022 and 2023 seasons, then signed a two-year deal with the Senators. They are trading him back to Detroit in exchange for a fourth-round draft pick. Perron will not join the team immediately – he’s on injured reserve, recovering from sports hernia surgery. He should be ready to play within the next week to 10 days.
NBA
The Pistons fell to the Spurs 121-106 last night. Cade Cunningham scored 26 points.
The Pistons welcome the Nets tomorrow. Coverage will begin at 5:35 on 99.3 the Lift.
The Bucks entertain the Jazz tomorrow.
MLB
The Tigers had yesterday off, and face the Red Sox this afternoon. Justin Verlander will start for Detroit.
The Brewers outslugged the Rockies 10-8 yesterday. Garrett Mitchell and Jake Bauers homered.
The Brewers face the Diamondbacks today. Chad Patrick will start.
Nordic Skiing
The Great Bear Chase takes place tomorrow, with multiple cross country events for juniors and adults at the Swedetown Trails.
