From Toivola to High Rock Bay, the Keweenaw Snowmobile Club keeps the Copper Country’s trails in tip top shape. The region’s snowmobiling season keeps travelers coming to the region and enhances the region’s four-season recreation. Over the weekend, the snowmobile club cut the ribbon on a new maintenance garage and club facility in Calumet. KSC President Ryan LaPorte says the new space offers the club’s groomers and volunteers more room to repair the piston bullies and moves the club closer to parts and services.
And when you really look at where our mileage is dispersed, even though we cover from Toivola all the way to High Rock Bay, the majority of our trail is really Calumet and north. So we’re lying in it, in a kind of a central area, in the big banana that our trail system is. And that gives us the ability to cover the whole system without having 12, 14, 16 hour runs on all machines. – Ryan LaPorte, President, Keweenaw Snowmobile Club
The Keweenaw Snowmobile Club plans to announce more details about trail openings and closures as the season moves closer. The Snowmobile Season will officially open on December 1st. The Club will work with MDOT and city partners in December to lock the portage lake lift bridge in place for the canal crossing. Stay up to date with the Keweenaw’s trails and trail groomers by downloading the groomer tracker app. Five dollars of the 10-dollar subscription fee supports the Keweenaw snowmobile club’s operations.
