The Western Upper Peninsula is home to many veterans. According to a report by rural insights in 2020, Baraga, Houghton, Keweenaw and Ontonagon counties are home to more than 4,300 veterans. Across the western upper peninsula tomorrow, the community will celebrate and remember veterans during special veterans’ day ceremonies and dinners.
Bright and early tomorrow morning High school students as part of ROTC programs will lead ceremonies at L’Anse Area High School and Houghton High School. Each ceremony celebrates the selfless sacrifice military members take upon themselves as they serve the United States’ Army, Marines, Airforce, Navy and National Guard. Houghton High School’s ceremony will begin at 11am and invite the community to attend. L’Anse Area High School will invite veterans to breakfast at 8am, before the school’s veterans’ Day assembly begins at 9:15 am.
And over at Marketplace Foods, the grocery store will serve up a free chicken dinner for all active-duty service members, veterans, and first responders. The grab and go dinners will come with two pieces of fried or grilled chicken, two sides, a dinner roll and beverage. The meal will also offer a half-priced meal to a guest joining a veteran.
On the Keweenaw Report Community Calendar you’ll find many more events and ceremonies taking place tomorrow.
