High School
The high school football playoffs are underway.
In Eight-Player Division Two, Lake Linden-Hubbell will host North Central this afternoon at 1:00 in a regional semifinal. Top seed North Dickinson will host St. Ignace in the other semifinal today.
In 11-Player Division Six, Calumet is in Kingsley today for a rematch of last year’s District opener. Coverage will begin at 12:40 on the Voice of the Copper Kings, KBear 102.3. Boyne City will play at Traverse City St. Francis in the other semifinal today.
In 11-Player Division Eight, L’Anse fell at Iron Mountain 31-15. Bark River-Harris spotted West Iron County an early touchdown, then steamrolled the Wykons 54-6.
In other games involving U.P. teams…
- In Division Three, Gaylord eliminated Marquette 38-34 last evening. Mount Pleasant downed Bay City Western 34-14 in the other semifinal.
- In Division Four, top seed Escanaba will entertain Freeland today. Big Rapids squeaked past Ludington 32-31 in the other semifinal last night.
- In Division Five, fourth seed Negaunee fell to Ogemaw Heights 29-28 in overtime. Kingsford will host Gladwin in the other semifinal today.
- In Division Seven, top-seed Menominee pounded Manton 48-17. McBain shaded Charlevoix 28-27.
- In eight-player Division One, Norway dispatched Gogebic 60-32. Pickford got past Inland Lakes 30-26.

College Hockey
The Michigan Tech hockey team lost 6-4 at Clarkson last night. The Huskies built a 2-0 lead, but the Golden Knights scored three times in the second period, and three times in the third to put the game away. Tech got goals from Elias Jansson and Brayden Boehm early, and two from Taydon Trembecky in the second and third periods. Owen Bartoszkiewicz stopped 25 shots, and took the loss in net. Tech plays at Clarkson again tonight.
The Northern hockey squad dropped a 2-1 decision to Augustana last night. Tobias Pitka netted the Wildcats’ only goal, and William Gramme stopped 46 shots to keep NMU in the game. Those teams play again tonight in Sioux Falls.
College Volleyball
The Tech volleyball team fell 3-0 (26-24, 25-20, 25-23) at Parkside last night. Rachel Zurek had 13 kills for the Huskies. Madelynn Kreider had 31 assists and 10 digs. Tech plays at Roosevelt today.
The NMU volleyball team stopped Roosevelt 3-1 (21-25, 25-16, 25-22, 25-16) last night. McKenzie Gruner tallied 15 kills. The Wildcats play at Parkside today.
College Soccer
The MTU women’s soccer team lost 3-1 to Parkside last evening. Ryley Winrich scored Tech’s only goal. The Huskies will host Roosevelt tomorrow.
The NMU women’s soccer team dropped a 5-1 decision to Roosevelt yesterday, and will entertains Parkside tomorrow.
The NMU men’s soccer team upended Roosevelt 2-1 yesterday, and welcomes Purdue Northwest tomorrow.
College Football
The Michigan Tech football team entertains Roosevelt today at noon.
The Northern football team plays at Ferris State today.
College Basketball
The Michigan Tech men’s basketball team will take part in the Small College Basketball Classic in Lakeland, Florida this weekend. The Huskies will face Dallas Baptist this afternoon, and Lenoir-Rhyne tomorrow.
NHL
The Red Wings lost to the Ducks 5-2 last night. Lucas Raymond and Alex DeBrincat scored. John Gibson made 27 saves, and took the loss in goal.
The Wings visit the Sharks tomorrow. Because of NFL football, coverage will begin at 7:45 on KBear 102.3.
NBA
The Pistons face the Mavericks in Mexico City tonight. Coverage will begin at 9:35 on 99.3 The Lift.
The Bucks entertain the Kings this afternoon.
Milwaukee will be without Kevin Porter Jr. for at least another month. Porter was working his way back from a sprained ankle when he suffered a knee injury. He will undergo what is described as a “minor orthopedic procedure.”
MLB
The Dodgers defeated the Blue Jays 3-1 last night, and evened up the World Series at three wins per team. The Fall Classic will be decided tonight in Toronto.
NFL
The Lions host the Vikings in a 1:00 game tomorrow afternoon, with the broadcast on 99.3 The Lift.
The Packers welcome the Panthers for a 1:00 game tomorrow.
