Michigan State Police announce the Eighth District will have a new leader.
On Thursday the Michigan State Police announced Captain Christopher Gerard will lead the Eighth district as commander. The eighth district region of the Michigan State Police encompasses the Upper Peninsula’s seven outposts and Marquette headquarters.
Gerard is a graduate of Baraga High school and attended Lake Superior State University for his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. He went on to earn his master’s degree in criminal justice from Northern Michigan University. Gerard began his career in law enforcement working in Meridian Township in the Lower Peninsula starting in 2003.
In 2010 he joined the Michigan state police and graduated with the 122nd trooper recruit school class. Since then, he has served the department in communities such as Wayland, Wakefield, Calumet Negaunee, and Rockford. In 2019 Gerard received a promotion to sergeant to serve at the MSP headquarters in Lansing, and in 2021 he returned to the Upper Peninsula and became a uniform sergeant at the Negaunee post. In 2023 he was selected as the post commander for Wakefield, and last year he transferred to the gladstone post to serve as commander there. Where he earned his promotion to captain.
