Routine inspections on the Portage Lake Lift Bridge will begin today. Late last week, the Michigan Department of Transportation updated the inspection work order and will conduct multiple lift tests on Wednesday and Thursday. The lift tests will occur after 7pm, and could result in traffic delays for motor vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians. The tests will last 10 to 15 minutes at a time. On Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday the transportation department will not allow vessels in need of a lift to pass under the bridge. The Portage Lake Lift bridge will remain in the intermediate position from October 20th to the 22nd. Throughout the week drivers should expect intermittent lane closures, with one lane open in either direction.
