Keweenaw Land Trust opens a new 40-acre nature area in franklin township. Sue Stephens donated land to become the Boston Creek nature area to the conservation group in hopes to see the community enjoy and explore Boston Creek. The nature area opens with an approximate 1-mile loop trail that crosses over the creek.
So, as you walk down into the valley, one of the first things you’ll see is a bridge over Boston Creek before it leads into a boardwalk that takes you through the floodplain section of Boston creek. We’re really excited to see what happens next year during the spring as the ground becomes wet, how the landscape changes, and what that looks like. And then it takes you along the creek before looping around into the woods and then coming back along the creek before coming right back up to the parking area. – B Lauer, executive director, Keweenaw land trust
The Boston Creek Nature Area features a small parking lot and many boardwalks and bridges. Keweenaw land trust used a portion of a Visit Keweenaw destination development grant to build the area’s amenities. Volunteers flattened gravel for the parking lot. And teams used four tons of lumber from Wisconsin to build the trail. Learn more about the Boston Creek Nature Area online.
