Heavy rains causing an overflow in the L’Anse sewer system near the wastewater plant will shut down the beach.
EGLE and the Western Upper Peninsula Health Department, with assistance from the L’Anse wastewater plant, determined that the resulting overflow of the sewer system from 3.2 inches of rain may increase the risk of illness if encountered unsanitary water.
According to the presence of E. Coli exceeds the acceptable levels. Composite samples taken on July 15th show a result value of 1.978 The L’Anse Waterfront Park beach will remain closed until further notice.

Chassell Township has also reported a beach closure due to the heavy rains and increased presence of contaminates enter waterways. This closure impacts the Chassell Centennial Park beach.
