The Tigers fell to the Twins 4-1 last evening. Sawyer Gipson-Long gave up a run in the fourth, a run in the fifth, and another before leaving the game in the sixth, and took the loss. Detroit’s only run came in the eighth inning, when Colt Keith tripled, and scored on a Gleyber Torres single.
The Tigers have lost five of their last eight, and entertain the Twins again this afternoon. Casey Mize will pitch against Bailey Ober. Coverage will begin at 12:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
The Brewers’ offensive tear continued with a 10-6 victory over the Rockies last evening. Jackson Chourio homered and drove in four runs. Chad Durbin had three hits. Jose Quintana pitched into the sixth, was charged with four runs, and earned the win. In their past eight games, Milwaukee has scored 70 runs.
The Brewers host the Rockies again this afternoon. Quinn Priester will start against Antonio Senzatela.
NHL
The Red Wings used the 13th pick in the NHL Draft last night to take 18-year-old Canadian left winger Carter Bear. Bear scored 40 goals and added 42 assists in his most recent season with the WHL’s Everett Silvertips, and is also considered a quality defender. He suffered a partially torn Achilles tendon in March, but hopes to be ready to resume playing next month.
The Islanders opened the Draft by taking defenseman Matthew Schaefer. The Sharks used the second pick on center Michael Misa, who scored 60 goals in 62 games for the OHL’s Saginaw Spirit last season.
The Draft concludes with rounds two through seven today. The Wings have eight more picks, including one in the second round, and two in the third.
