In high school baseball yesterday…

In softball…
- Houghton outscored Negaunee 16-11.
- Calumet swept Ishpeming 7-2 and 10-0. Lena Myhren earned the seven-inning win in the opener, and wo of just four hits for the Copper Kings, who were aided by receiving 10 walks. Game two ended after five innings because of the mercy rule. Kaylee Newsom allowed seven hits, but kept the Hematites off the board. Isabella Coppo had two hits and drove in three runs. Myhren had a triple and a double.
- Hancock took two from Westwood, 8-3 and 13-4. Sadie Biekkola picked up the win and had two hits in the opener. Vaeda Brooks and Mallory Sporalski each had three hits and Sofie Freeman, Brooke Koskela, and Diem Kilpela each added two hits. Lucy Biekkola struck out eight and had two hits for the Bulldogs in game two. Koskela had four hits, Sadie Biekkola had three hits, and Vaeda Brooks had two.
Lake Linden-Hubbell swept the Copper Mountain Conference Track and Field Championships yesterday. The Dollar Bay-Tamarack City boys team finished fourth, behind Ironwood and Bessemer. The Blue Bolts girls team placed second.
- On the boys side, Chassell’s Kalvin Kytta won the 800, 1600 and 3200-meter runs.
- On the boys side, Lake Linden’s Emily Jokela claimed the 100 and 400-meter dashes, and the 100 and 300-meter hurdles.

The All-Copper Mountain Conference awards were announced after the meet.
- Emily Jokela of the Lakes was honored as the girls’ Most Valuable Player for the fourth time. Ontonagon’s Alli Bobula was named top sprinter, and Ironwood’s Aubrey Smith top distance runner. Jenna Tarnowski of Ontonagon and Aubrey Karppinen of Dollar Bay-Tamarack City shared top hurdler honors, and Ironwood’s Emma Warden was named top thrower. Laila Bell of the Blue Bots was selected as top jumper. Lake Linden-Hubbell was named Team of the Year, and Gary Guisfredi of the Lakes Coach of the Year.

Lake Linden-Hubbell was named Team of the Year, and Brett Gervais of the Lakes Coach of the Year.

MLB
The Tigers dropped an 11-3 decision to the Cardinals last evening. Sean Gunther opened the game, but gave up three hits and a run, and got just one out before being replaced by Keider Montero. Montero pitched through the sixth, and gave up five runs. John Brebbia was torched for five more runs in the seventh. Dillon Dingler had two hits for Detroit.
The Tigers visit the Cardinals again tonight. Tarik Skubal will start against Erick Fedde. Coverage will begin at 7:20 on 99.3 The Lift.
Detroit has added starter Reese Olson to the injured list. He left Saturday’s game with what turned out to be inflammation on the ring finger of his throwing hand. Chase Lee has been brought up from Toledo to fill in.
The Brewers shaded the Orioles 5-4 last night. William Contreras singled home Brice Turang with the winning run in the bottom of the eighth. Rob Zastryzny opened with a scoreless first inning. Quinn Priester took over in the second, and left after giving up a three-run homer in the seventh.
The Brewers host the Orioles again this evening. Logan Henderson will pitch against Keegan Akin.
NBA
The NBA Western Conference championship series opens tonight, as the Timberwolves visit the Thunder. The Eastern Conference series between the Pacers and Knicks begins tomorrow.
NHL
The NHL Eastern Conference championship series begins this evening, when the Panthers visit the Hurricanes. The Western Conference tilt between the Stars and the Oilers starts tomorrow.
