Dead & Company will celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Grateful Dead with three shows in San Francisco’s Golden State Park in August that could potentially attract up to 60,000 fans each night. San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie made the announcement on Instagram on Monday (May 12), where he welcomed Deadheads to visit the band’s birthplace for the upcoming performances scheduled for August 1-3. “We have some really big news,” Lurie said in the video. “Dead & Co. Three shows. August 1, 2 and 3. Right here in the city that is the home of the Grateful Dead. What better way to celebrate? We’ll see you out here in August.” Lurie teased that the band will be announcing the shows “soon,” while the events are still awaiting official approval from the Recreation and Park Commission. This will be the first time that Dead & Company will perform in San Francisco’s legendary park, while Grateful Dead played there at least 14 times, including a memorable show in 1967 during the Summer of Love, and in 1991 to honor the late concert promoter, Bill Graham.
