Spring weight restrictions will end next week across the Copper Country. While weight restrictions on state trunklines will lift on Friday.
Throughout the spring, the state’s Department of Transportation and county road commission implement load weight restrictions for semi trucks, trailers, and vehicles with multiple axels, to prevent unnecessary damage to road infrastructure during the annual thaw. The state’s restrictions will lift across Michigan highways on Friday, including roads designated with an M, I, or US title.
In the local region, the Barga, Houghton, Keweenaw, and Ontonagon road commissions announced in a joint statement, that restrictions on gravel roads and county roads will lift on May 13th. Some roads will have individual restrictions. Drivers should contact the local road commission for more information.
