The Wolf’s Head Film Festival returns this weekend, bringing spooky cinema and creative storytelling to the Keweenaw Peninsula ahead of Halloween.
The second annual event features short films, a creature feature screening inside a mine, filmmaker Q&A sessions, tours of the Keweenaw Peninsula, and VIP screenings.
Festival Director Daena Makela said the event has grown significantly since its debut.
“It’s grown quite a bit and we’ve added a third day. We have filmmakers coming from all over the country. Last year we had three; this year we’re going to have at least 15 up here, and they’re coming to do Q&As to support their films,” Makela said. “One of the bigger aspects is we have a filmmaker coming to support his film that is world premiering here. No one has seen it before. It’s called ‘The Dark Domain: Mickey vs. Winnie,’ and it was filmed in part up at Open Skies Project at the old Air Force base.”
The festival concludes Saturday with a Monster Mash zombie prom at the Hancock Community Hub. Ticket prices vary by package and support future film festivals and creative initiatives in the region.
