A 26-year-old Chassell man has been charged with criminal sexual conduct following an investigation by the Houghton County Sheriff’s Office.
Jacob Lawrence Tarvis faces one count of criminal sexual conduct in the fourth degree using force or coercion. The charge stems from an incident in July 2025.
Tarvis appeared in Houghton County’s 97th District Court on Friday for a preliminary exam. He was represented by attorney Dennis M. Tousignant. Judge Daavettila set the case’s next hearing for October 21 to allow the prosecution time to receive subpoena files.
According to a criminal report from the Houghton County Sheriff’s Office, the victim was 17 years old at the time of the incident.
Tarvis was arraigned in court on August 20 and has been released on a $5,000 bond.
