In high school volleyball last night…
- Hancock shaded Negaunee 3-0 (25-23, 25-22, 25-20).
- Lake Linden-Hubbell blanked Chassell 3-0 (25-20, 25-16, 25-7). For Chassell, Elli Kuntze had 13 kills, 4 aces, and 6 digs. Oriana Olson had 3 kills, 1 ace and 7 digs. Sylvia Aho had 15 assists, 1 ace and 2 digs. Hear the game replay here.
- Dollar Bay-Tamarack City routed Bessemer 3-0 (25-21, 25-7, 25-8). Sylvie Kentala had 8 assists for the Blue Bolts, with Laila Bell, Lillian Pelland-Rippey, and Hannah Keranen all ending up with 4 kills. Kiya Kemppainen had a season-high 9 aces as well as 10 digs.
- Ewen-Trout Creek outlasted Ontonagon 3-2 (25-28, 23-25, 23-25, 25-23, 15-8).

Houghton, Calumet, Hancock, Jeffers and West Iron County will be among the teams competing at the Negaunee Invitational cross country meet.
Lake Linden-Hubbell remains the top eight-player team in the region, according to the most recent U.P. Sportswriters and Sportscasters poll. The unbeaten Lakes collected all of this week’s first-place votes after dispatching North Central last Saturday. Unbeaten Pickford remains in second place, followed by Ishpeming, Norway, St. Ignace and Forest Park.
Menominee remains on top of the 11-player poll. The unbeaten Maroons swept the first-place votes. Unbeaten Kingsford remains in second place, after defeating Calumet last Friday. Despite the loss, the Copper Kings remain third in the poll, followed by Negaunee and Bark River-Harris.
College Volleyball
Michigan Tech outside hitter Rachel Zurek has been named the GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week. Zurek tallied 24 kills in the Huskies’ match against Northern Michigan on Tuesday, and added 18 kills in a sweep at Wayne State on Friday.

The best-of-three Wild Card playoff series begin today.
