The driver that caused a serious two-vehicle collision on the Mackinac Bridge yesterday morning has been apprehended and charged with the felony of Reckless Driving Causing Serious Impairment of a Body Function.
In the early hours of Wednesday, Sep. 23, several southbound vehicles passed the toll booths and began to drive recklessly onto the bridge at high speed. The crash occurred near a construction zone where the bridge narrows to one lane of traffic. Michigan State Police believe speed and alcohol were contributing factors to the incident.
The MSP has released that the perpetrator is a 28-year-old man from Jamaica who lives seasonally in the area; his name has been withheld pending arraignment but he is being held in the Mackinac County Jail. Any other individuals who may have been operating vehicles recklessly at the time are also pending investigation and review by the Mackinac County Prosecutor. All subjects are considered innocent until proven guilty.
