Andrey Petrov, 40, was arraigned in 97th District Court following a multi-hour standoff with police last week.
Petrov was arrested on September 15th after police responded to a fire in the roadway on M-203/Pine Street. When officers arrived, Petrov refused commands and pointed a gun at an officer, prompting backup units from the Michigan State Police Emergency Response Team and other local agencies to respond.
After an MSP vehicle forced entry into the residence, Petrov was taken into custody without further incident.
Petrov was arraigned the following day on one charge of assaulting/resisting a police officer. Judge Nicholas Daavettila set his bond at $500,000.
“The incident appears to arise out of significant mental health issues and will be handled as such,” said Houghton County Prosecutor Dan Helmer.
Petrov is represented by Tri Counties Public Defenders Attorney Cameron Herrington. A review hearing is scheduled for October 16th.
