As Michigan Tech students return to campus for autumn 2026, the university’s men’s Golf Club prepares to launch its season. Though operating as a club-level rather than varsity sport, the team consistently performs well in tournaments while welcoming golfers of all experience levels.
The Golf Club attracts players ranging from scratch golfers to beginners, creating an inclusive environment that encourages participation regardless of skill. “The Golf Club has people of all skill levels, from a scratch golfer all the way up to people that shoot 140, we welcome everybody, we’re glad to have everybody out,” said Nicholas Lothian, president of the Golf Club. “We even have a tournament team that’s gone and played in some tournaments down in Wisconsin against other colleges, we’ve placed as high as second place in those tournaments.”
Students can play golf for free at the Michigan Tech-owned Portage Lake Golf Course, with greens fees included in the optional “Experience Tech” fee. Female golfers have their own women’s golf team to join.
