Michigan State Police promoted Inspector Jason Welch to assistant district commander of the Eighth District on Friday. In this role, Welch will help lead MSP field services throughout the Upper Peninsula while supporting district personnel, law enforcement partners and communities.
Welch previously oversaw the Marquette Forensic Laboratory. A Northern Michigan University graduate, he earned a bachelor of science in Justice Studies with a minor in sociology. Welch joined MSP in 1999 as an evidence technician before transferring to the Marquette lab to specialize in latent print examination. He later joined the MSP Bomb Squad while continuing to lead the Marquette Forensic Lab.
