MLB
The Tigers suffered one of the biggest collapses in team history last night, falling to the Orioles 10-9 in 12 innings. Tarik Skubal tossed six shutout innings, and Detroit carried a 7-0 lead into the seventh. That’s when the Baltimore bats woke up. Skubal was charged with three runs as he was chased from the game, and Kyle Finnegan was charged with two more. The O’s tied it with two off Drew Anderson in the eighth. Neither team scored in the ninth or 10th, and both squads plated two in the 11th. Colton Cowser’s RBI single off Drew Sommers in the top of the 12th drove in the winning run. The disaster dimmed a couple of landmark moments. Skubal recorded his 1,000th career strikeout in what may have been his last start for the Tigers. Spencer Torkelson hit his 100th career home run.
The Tigers have today off, and visit the Athletics tomorrow night. Coverage will begin at 9:15 on 99.3 The Lift.
Matt Vierling left last night’s game after tweaking a groin muscle while legging out a triple. He’ll be evaluated today.
The Brewers also fell apart late in an ugly 16-3 loss to the Giants. San Francisco broke open a close game with seven runs in the sixth inning. Two were charged to Chad Patrick, and five to Aaron Ashby. The Giants added three more off Bryse Wilson in the seventh, and plated their final three runs off infielder Andrew Vaughn, who moved to the mound in the eighth.
Milwaukee brought pitcher Thomas Pannone up from Nashville to start last night’s game. Garrett Stallings was sent down to make room on the roster. The move was made to give the Crew’s regular starters an extra day of rest. Milwaukee has today off, and will visit the Angels tomorrow night. Shane Drohan, who was scheduled to pitch last night, is scheduled to start tomorrow.
