The Michigan Department of Transportation announced Monday it will close seven roadside parks across Alger and Keweenaw counties starting July 27 to complete infrastructure upgrades.
Four Keweenaw County parks will close during the project: Snow Gauge Park on US 41, Great Sand Bay Roadside Park, Esry Roadside Park and Hebard Roadside Park on M-26.
Crews will upgrade toilet building facilities at each location. Work is scheduled to continue through August 20.
“The department will have crews on site to complete upgrades at the toilet buildings,” officials said.
The closures affect popular rest stops used by travelers and outdoor enthusiasts throughout the region. The upgrades will improve facilities for visitors once work concludes.
Travelers should plan alternate routes or use other available roadside parks during the closure period.
