The Brewers entertain the Marlins tomorrow.
Milwaukee has bolstered its starting pitching depth by acquiring right-hander Lance McCullers Jr. and left-hander Colton Gordon from the Astros. McCullers was an All-Star in 2017, but has struggled with injuries in recent years. He’s currently on the injured list with a shoulder ailment, but has made some rehab starts, and should be about ready to return. Gordon has split time between Houston and its Triple-A team, and has been used as a starter and in relief. In return, Houston gets outfield prospect Jadyn Fielder, the son of former Brewer and Tiger Prince Fielder, and the grandson of former Tiger Cecil Fielder.
NHL
The Detroit Red Wings are looking for a new general manager. After seven frustrating seasons, Steve Yzerman has stepped out of that role. He will become a senior advisor to team owner Chris Ilitch as the team begins the search for his replacement.
Yzerman spent his Hall of Fame career as a center with the Red Wings, was a team captain for two decades, and is one of nine Wings whose numbers have been retired.
He’s credited with building the Lightning into a championship contender as Tampa’s GM from 2010 through 2019. He was unable to duplicate that success in Detroit.
There have been reports that growing friction between Yzerman and current team captain Dylan Larkin contributed to Larkin’s request to be traded.
