In Copper Country Fast Pitch Softball League play last evening…
- Moyle/Finnish Coat outscored Northern Wishes 11-8. Krista Carello struck out seven, and was the winning pitcher. Rosalie Kangas and Larissa Peterson pitched for Northern Wishes. Kangas struck out seven and Peterson struck out two. For Moyle/Finnish Coat, Romi Mattson had three singles and Brynn Arko had four singles. For Northern Wishes, Meg Ruohonen had an out-of-the-park home run and two doubles, Rosalie Kangas had an out-of-the-park home run and two singles, and Theresa Anderson had a double and 2 singles.
- Superior Service defeated Figaro’s Pizza 13-5. Isabelle Cleary was the winning pitcher and struck out seven. Danni Stites was the losing pitcher, with Kaylee Newsom coming in as relief. Stites and Newsom each struck out four. For Superior Service, Mallory Sporalski had a triple and two singles, Raili Marcotte had a double and a single, and Gracie Moyle and Molly Bugni each had two singles. For Figaro’s Pizza, Trinity Rajala had a double and a single, and Lena Myhren had a triple and a single.

MLB
The Tigers dropped their second straight 4-2 decision to the Astros yesterday. Casey Mize returned from the injured list, pitched into the fifth inning, and was charged with three runs on six hits. Kerry Carpenter and Kevin McGonigle homered.
The Tigers have today off, and host the White Sox tomorrow. Tarik Skubal will face Erick Fedde. Coverage will begin at 6:15 on 99.3 The Lift.
Second baseman Gleyber Torres is back on the injured list with a strained left oblique. That’s the same injury that knocked him out of the lineup for a month earlier this year.
Wenceel Pérez missed last night’s game after a freak accident in the training room. Manager A.J. Hinch said a resistance band slipped off its hook while Pérez was working out, snapped back, and hit him just below the left eye. He’s undergoing tests.
The Brewers clubbed the Guardians 9-4 last night. Brandon Sproat turned in three scoreless innings, but left the game after Daniel Schneemann hit a grand slam in the fourth. Three relievers held Cleveland to just one hit over the rest of the game, with Chad Patrick getting the win. Christian Yelich and Jackson Chourio homered.
The Brewers wrap up their home set against the Guardians this afternoon. Shane Drohan will pitch against Parker Messick.
Bowling
Kids who would like to improve their bowling skills can do so for free this summer. Miller’s Lanes in Laurium has again partnered with the Kids Bowl Free Program. Through August 31st, youth ages 3-18 can bowl two free games on each of the program days. The only cost is shoe rental. Program days and times are Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 3:30-7 pm, and Sundays from 1-4 pm.
