The Golden Knights slew the Avalanche 5-3 last evening. Vegas leads the Western Conference final 3-0.
The Canadiens welcome the Hurricanes tonight. The Eastern Conference final is tied 2-2.
MLB
The Tigers broke their eight-game losing streak with a victory in the second game of their doubleheader against the Orioles last night.
Detroit nearly won the opener, but Kenley Janson gave up a massive three-run homer to Colton Cowser with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, and the Bengals lost 5-3. That spoiled a good start by Framber Valdez, who allowed a run on two hits over six innings. Matt Vierling had three hits for the Tigers.
Troy Melton sparkled in his first start of the season, as Detroit took the nightcap 4-1. Melton came off the injured list, and allowed a run on two hits before leaving in the sixth. Dillon Dingler homered.
The Tigers have today off, and host the Angels tomorrow. Keider Montero will start against Jack Kochanowicz. Coverage will begin at 6:15 on 99.3 The Lift.
To open a space for Melton on the roster, Brant Hurter was placed on the injured list. He’s dealing with back inflammation. The Tigers also brought Ricky Vanasco back up from Toledo, and designated Connor Seabold for assignment.
The Brewers dropped the rubber game of their series against the Dodgers 5-1 yesterday. Brandon Sproat was chased from the mound as L.A. scored four runs in the fifth inning.
The Brewers welcome the Cardinals this afternoon. Jacob Misiorowski will pitch against Matthew Liberatore.
After a couple of disappointing starts, Milwaukee has sent pitcher Robert Gasser back down to Nashville, and brought up Carlos Rodriguez. The Crew also brought outfielder Akil Baddoo off the injured list, and assigned him to the Sounds.
Biking
At the Ride the Keweenaw Enduro in Copper Harbor yesterday…
- Bodee McFadden of Duluth took the Expert men’s title, besting Michael Noble of Gwinn by 11 seconds.
- Calumet’s Kyia Anderson won the women’s Expert event, three seconds better than Sam Breeuer of Duluth.
- Carter West from Lowell, Michigan, won the men’s Sport crown, three seconds ahead of Marquette’s Hunter Bell.
- The women’s Sport title went to Corenne Rubin of Houghton, who finished 44 seconds ahead of Lisa Randall of Copper Harbor.
