A butterfly garden established by KBIC Elder Nutrition honors a culture of caregiving.
Keweenaw Bay Indian Community Elder Nutrition will join A Caregiver’s Butterfly Garden initiative with IMPART Alliance and AgeAlive at MSU to establish a satellite garden in the community. The installation connects the community with the region’s primary exhibit at the Ishpeming Multi Purpose Senior Center and expands the network of butterfly gardens honoring caregivers throughout Michigan.
On Wednesday, KBIC Elder Nutrition will unveil the new garden at the Ojibwa Senior Citizens Building that will include an art installation nearby. Project office coordinator Joslyn Haataja says there is a huge need to support caregivers, all while there are fewer people filling those professional positions.
Through A Caregiver’s Butterfly Garden, participants are encouraged to write a personal reflection before transforming the note into a butterfly and adding it to the garden’s installation.
Those interested in attending the butterfly garden unveiling with KBIC Elder Nutrition can attend a reception Wednesday beginning at 11 a.m. at the Ojibwa Senior Citizens Building. Find more information here.
