In baseball yesterday…
- Hancock defeated Ontonagon 16-8.

- Ewen-Trout Creek fell to Ironwood 28-1.
In softball…
- Houghton won the first of its two games against Calumet 13-6. Ellie Hainault tripled for the Gremlins, and earned the win in the circle. Lexi Burns had three hits. Jaysa Wilks had three hits and drove in four runs for Calumet, and Molly Erkkila had a couple of triples. The Copper Kings were hurt by five errors – seven of Houghton’s 13 runs were unearned. The second game ended in a 5-5 tie.
- Hancock split their games against Gogebic. The Miners got off to a quick start, and took the opener 9-4. The Bulldogs were held to just three hits – two by Chloe Bastian. Hancock grabbed the early lead in the nightcap, and held on for a 5-4 victory. Bastien had two more hits, and drove in two runs.
- Jeffers lost two to Negaunee, 6-0 and 19-4. The Jets had just two hits in the opener, and struck out 17 times. They collected three in the nightcap, including a double by Ellie Kuntze.
Both Baraga teams finished seventh at the Bark River-Harris Track Invitational yesterday. The Vikings’ best performance was a second-place finish by Elisa Delene in the discus throw. See full results here.
At the Kingsford Invitational…
- On the boys side, West Iron County finished second to the host Flivvers, with Forest Park third. Alex Ghigga of the Wykons won the shot put. Dietrich Rasner and Hayden Smith of the Trojans finished first and second in the pole vault.
- On the girls side, Forest Park took the title, with West Iron County fourth. Vienna Price of the Trojans won the 400-meter sprint, and Audrey Williams took the 800. Haven Van Sickle won the 100-meter hurdles, and Ava Fischer claimed the 300 and the shot put. Bristol Shamion of the Wykons won the high jump.

Cleveland’s Donovan Mitchell scored 39 points in the second half to tie an all-time NBA playoff record. That Eastern Conference semifinal is now tied 2-2, with game five set for Detroit tomorrow. - The Avalanche tamed the Wild 5-2. Colorado leads that Western Conference second-round series 3-1.

- The Golden Nights welcome the Ducks. That Western Conference series is tied 2-2.
MLB

NFL
The Lions have agreed to contract terms with six of their seven picks in the recent NFL Draft. The lone holdout is their first-round selection, former Clemson offensive tackle Blake Miller.
