A Houghton County man was sentenced Friday in 12th Circuit Court for home invasion and assault with intent to do great bodily harm.
George Thomas Mendivil, 26, was sentenced to serve concurrent sentences for charges related to an assault and home invasion in 2025. Mendivil was arrested in August 2025 for domestic violence, assault with intent to do great bodily harm and first-degree home invasion.
At his sentencing hearing, Assistant County Prosecutor Hillary Baker told the court Mendivil demonstrates a tendency to use manipulation to get what he wants from those close to him.
Baker also shared that after Mendivil was placed back in the Houghton County Jail following a violation of his bond conditions, he used provided technology devices to send hundreds of messages a day to an unidentified woman demanding her response to texts. Baker called the messages selected from just a single day “unhinged.”
Judge Brittany Bulleit agreed with the prosecution’s view that Mendivil’s initial charges, bond violation and repeated harassment of another individual show he is willing to manipulate vulnerable individuals.
Mendivil was sentenced to serve a minimum of 57 months, with a maximum sentence of 10 years, for assault to do great bodily harm, with 237 days credited as served. He will serve a concurrent sentence requiring a 72-month minimum for home invasion, with 234 days credited as served. The home invasion conviction holds a maximum sentence of 20 years. Mendivil will also need to pay several court fees and fines.
