High School
In high school softball yesterday…
- Jeffers swept L’Anse 14-13 and 19-0. Meg Ruohonen hit two homers in the opener. Her solo shot in the top of the sixth became the game-winner, after the Purple Hornets scored four times in the bottom of the inning to narrow the score. KayDee Archambeau had three hits and drove in five runs for the Jets, and Addi Randell had three hits and three RBI. Teri Ahola drove in three runs for L’Anse. Jeffers blew the second game open with 11 runs in the second inning, and forced an early mercy-rule finish with six runs in the third. Svea Johnson had three hits and drove in four runs, and Janet Mattila had two hits, drove in four runs, and scored four times.
In softball today, weather and field conditions permitting…

In high school baseball yesterday…
- Jeffers took a pair from L’Anse, 22-1 and 5-2. In the opener, Brogan Turner had three hits, including a triple and a home run, and drove in five runs for the Jets. Blake Heltunen and Levi Kinnunen each had three hits and scored four times. Heltunen and Kinnunen combined to hold the Purple Hornets to just one hit. L’Anse grabbed an early 2-1 lead in the nightcap, but Jeffers scored two in the third inning, and two more in the fourth. Turner had two hits and scored twice for the Jets.

- Hancock travels to Gladstone for a doubleheader that was scheduled for tomorrow, but has been moved up because of rain in the forecast.

- Copper Country teams will compete at the L’Anse Early Bird meet.
- Forest Park will compete at Florence.
NBA
In the NBA tournament yesterday…
The Pistons shut down the Magic 98-83. The game was tied at halftime, but Detroit took control with a 30-3 scoring run to open the second half. Cade Cunningham had 27 points and 11 assists. The victory marked Detroit’s first home-court playoff win since 2008, and it tied their opening-round series at a win per team. Game three will be played Saturday in Orlando. Coverage will begin at 12:35 on 99.3 The Lift.
In last night’s only other game, the Thunder cooled off the Suns 120-107. Oklahoma City leads that series 2-0.
Tonight…
- The Knicks visit the Hawks. That set is tied 1-1.
- The Raptors host the Cavaliers. Cleveland leads that series 2-0.
- The Timberwolves welcome the Nuggets. That series is tied 1-1.
NHL
In the NHL playoffs last night…
- The Flyers dumped the Penguins 5-2. Philadelphia leads that series 3-0.
- The Stars edged the Wild 4-3 in double overtime. Dallas leads that set 2-1.
- The Ducks outscored the Oilers 6-4. That series is tied 1-1.
Tonight…
- The Bruins welcome the Sabres. That series is tied 1-1.
- The Senators host the Hurricanes. Carolina is up 2-0 in that set.
- The Kings entertain the Avalanche. Colorado has a 2-0 lead in that series.
MLB
Spencer Torkelson and Kerry Carpenter homered, as the Tigers downed the Brewers 5-2 last night. Casey Mize earned the win with six strong innings, giving up a run on three hits and striking out seven. Kenley Jansen gave up a hit and walked two batters in the ninth, but earned the save.
The Tigers conclude that home set against the Brewers this afternoon. Tarik Skubal will start against Brandon Sproat. Coverage will begin at 12:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
After Tuesday’s meltdown, the Tigers sent reliever Enmanuel De Jesus down to Toledo, and brought up veteran right-hander Burch Smith. To make room for Smith on the 40-man roster, pitcher Bailey Horn was transferred to the 60-day injured list.
Milwaukee pitcher Quinn Priester made his first rehab start at Nashville last night, and it didn’t go well. He faced just six batters, recorded only two outs, and less than half of his pitches were strikes. He’s recovering from thoracic outlet syndrome.
NFL
The NFL Draft opens tonight with round one. The Raiders have the first pick, followed by the Jets and the Cardinals. The Lions have the 17th pick. The Packers do not have a first-round selection. Both their 2026 and 2027 first-round picks were sent to the Cowboys in the Micah Parsons trade last fall.
