MLB
The Tigers completed a weekend sweep of the Marlins with an 8-2 victory yesterday. Dillon Dingler’s three-run homer in the first inning got Detroit off to a quick start. Kevin McGonigle hit his first major league home run in the fifth, and Kerry Carpenter blasted a two-run shot in the sixth. Tarik Skubal took a no-hitter into the sixth inning, and wound up leaving in the seventh after allowing a run on two hits.

The Brewers fell to the Nationals 8-6 yesterday. Brandon Woodruff gave up two runs on three hits over six innings, and left with a lead. The Milwaukee bullpen couldn’t hold it, as Washington scored four in the seventh and two in the eighth off Abner Uribe, Angel Zerpa and Aaron Ashby. Brice Turang hit two home runs, and Jake Bauers and Gary Sánchez each hit one.
The Brewers also have today off, and host the Blue Jays tomorrow night. Jacob Misiorowski will pitch against Kevin Gausman.
Christian Yelich left yesterday’s game with tightness in a hamstring. He’ll be evaluated today.
Former Tigers and Brewers manager Phil Garner has died. Garner earned the nickname “Scrap Iron” for his toughness as an All-Star third baseman over 16 seasons as a player. He went on to manage the Brewers for eight seasons, and the Tigers for two. He then led the Astros to their first National League pennant in 2005. Garner passed away Saturday at age 76, from pancreatic cancer.
