The Copper Country Recycling Initiative will host a virtual presentation with KUUF on Sunday to discuss sustainable materials management for individuals and larger communities.
Executive Director Johnathon Nagel says the group focuses events like Sunday’s presentation on individual practices, but also works closely with municipalities and WUPPDR to make recycling easier for residents.
“That doesn’t mean those are our be-all end-all, right? Even if we could recycle everything we produced, we could still be more sustainable by just consuming less in the first place and reducing how much that we have to recycle,” Nagel said. “So recycling is a great option, but it shouldn’t be our first choice. And that’s why the old saying reduce, reuse, recycle is always said in that order.”
CCRI promotes recycling events in the Copper Country while the region awaits solutions for items such as electronics. The MTU Sustainability House will host a Waste Reduction Drive event on Saturday.
On the recycling initiative’s website, residents can find resources on recycling other items such as metals, batteries and glass. Those interested in joining the group for Sunday’s presentation can find more information below.
