NHL
The Red Wings earned a much-needed win, outscoring the Sabres 5-2 last night. Detroit got all the scoring it needed in the opening period, with goals by Alex DeBrincat, Lucas Raymond and Marco Kasper. Jacob Bernard-Docker netted his first goal of the season early in the third period, and Patrick Kane sealed the win with an empty-netter. John Gibson made 28 saves.
The Wings and Senators both trail the Islanders by one standings point in the race for the second Eastern Conference wild-card playoff berth. Detroit and Ottawa both have one game in hand.
The Wings host the Flyers tonight. Coverage will begin at 7:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
NBA
The Pistons visit the Timberwolves this evening.
The Bucks welcome the Spurs tonight.
MLB
The Tigers improved to 2-0 with a 5-2 victory over the Padres last night. Detroit scored four runs in the eighth inning, keyed by Kevin McGonigle’s bases-loaded single on the 10th pitch of a battle with reliever Wandy Peralta. Framber Valdez turned in six innings in his Detroit debut, allowing two runs on seven hits.
The Tigers play at San Diego again tonight. Jack Flaherty will start against Randy Vásquez. Because of Red Wings hockey, there will be no Tigers broadcast this evening.
The Brewers had yesterday off, and host the White Sox again tonight. Chad Patrick will pitch against Sean Burke.
Snowmobile Racing
The new Copper Country 100 Snowmobile Race debuts today. The event was put together quickly, after the Porcupine Mountains 100 was canceled at the last minute because of flooding along the course. Six heats are scheduled for various divisions, beginning at 9:00 at a site on Green Acres Road near the Valley View Quarry. Registration has closed, but spectators are welcome.
