MLB
The Tigers opened their season with an 8-2 victory over the Padres yesterday. Kevin McGonigle became only the second Tiger ever to get four hits in his first major league game – two were doubles, and he drove in two runs. Dillon Dingler drove in three runs with two hits, including a home run. Tarik Skubal gave up a run on three hits over six innings.
The Tigers play at San Diego again tonight. Framber Valdez will start against Michael King. Coverage will begin at 9:15 on 99.3 The Lift.
The Brewers buried the White Sox 14-2 in their season-opener yesterday. Five Brewers pitchers struck out 20 Chicago batters, tying a major league record for a nine-inning game. Jacob Misiorowski had 11 of those strikeouts – the most ever for a Milwaukee pitcher on opening day. He allowed a run on two hits over five innings. Sal Frelick and Jake Bauers homered, and William Contreras drove in three runs with a bases-loaded double.
The Brewers have today off, and host the White Sox again tomorrow. Chad Patrick will pitch against Sean Burke.
Milwaukee will play without Jackson Chourio for the next month. Chourio aggravated a hand injury in one of the Brewers’ late exhibition games against the Reds. An MRI revealed a small fracture. Blake Perkins was called back from Nashville to fill in.
Snowmobile Racing
The new Copper Country 100 Snowmobile Race debuts tomorrow. The event was put together quickly, after the Porcupine Mountains 100 was canceled at the last minute because of flooding along the course.
